# Adding Nova to Discord

Invite Nova to your Discord server, approve its permissions and place its role in the hierarchy. Needs Administrator or Manage Server.

> [!WARNING]
> You must have **Administrator** or **Manage Server** permissions on the Discord server to add a bot.

***

## Step 1 — Invite Nova

Click the invite link below to add Nova to your server:

[**Add Nova to Discord**](https://discord.com/oauth2/authorize?client_id=1263740412120662018\&permissions=1376805579860\&integration_type=0\&scope=bot)

***

## Step 2 — Select Your Server

1. Choose the server you want to add Nova to from the dropdown
2. Click **"Continue"**

***

## Step 3 — Confirm Permissions

Review and approve the required permissions:

| Permission | Why It's Needed |
| -------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------ |
| View Channels | Read messages where Nova is mentioned |
| Send Messages | Reply to users and deliver notifications |
| Embed Links | Format rich responses with embeds |
| Attach Files | Send images and charts |
| Read Message History | Maintain conversation context |
| Manage Roles | Assign token/NFT-gated roles (if configured) |
| Manage Messages | Delete scam/spam messages (Nova Guardian auto-moderation) |
| Moderate Members | Time out (mute) a caught scammer, and undo it via **Revert** |
| Ban Members | Ban a caught scammer via the **Ban** button on a flag report |

> [!NOTE]
> The last three are only ever used by [Nova Guardian](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/community/guardian.md), and only when a server admin explicitly turns **auto-moderation** on. Guardian is flag-only until then — Nova never deletes, mutes or bans anyone without that opt-in.

Click **"Authorize"** to complete the setup.

***

## Step 4 — Set Up Role Hierarchy

For role management features to work, Nova's role must be positioned **above** any roles it needs to assign:

1. Go to **Server Settings** → **Roles**
2. Drag the **Nova** role above the roles it should manage
3. Keep it **below** your admin/moderator roles

> [!NOTE]
> Role hierarchy only matters if you plan to use Nova's role management features. If you're only using alerts and AI chat, you can skip this step.

## You're All Set

Nova is now active in your server. See the [Quick Start](https://zeroauthoritydao.ai/docs/nova/get-started.md#quick-start) for how to talk to Nova and the available commands.
